Blythe Construction teamed up once again with Druid Hills Academy in Charlotte, N.C., to host the second annual STEM Kids Construction Day on Friday, June 14. More than 70 children (ages 4 to 10) registered to participate this year — triple the number from last year. This significant increase in participation reflects just how popular the event has become among the students of Druid Hills Academy. It also suggests greater openness among parents to consider the construction industry as a viable career option for their children.

Elmore Goldsmith, a Greenville, SC-based construction law firm, was recently named one of the Top 50 Construction Law Firms in the United States by Construction Executive (CE) magazine. For this inaugural ranking, CE reached out to hundreds of law firms throughout the United States with a dedicated construction practice.

Results from the Q2 2019 USG Corporation + U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commercial Construction Index (Index) indicate that more than half of contractors are highly confident that the market will provide sufficient new business opportunities in the next 12 months.

Demand for design services in May remained essentially flat in comparison to the previous month, according to a new report today from The American Institute of Architects (AIA). AIA’s Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score for May showed a small increase in design services at 50.2, which is slightly down from 50.5 in April.
 
The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) has hired Duplin County’s economic development director to support business prosperity and growth in a 12-county region of Southeast North Carolina. James Wolfe, executive director of the Duplin County Economic Development Commission, became the EDPNC’s new Southeast existing industry expansions manager. Wolfe will work on the state’s behalf to support economic development in New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Duplin, Carteret, Craven, Onslow, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Pamlico and Wayne counties.
 
South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) recognizes 25 delegates for completing the 2018-2019 Port Ambassador Program, which provides participants with a deep understanding of the connection between the Port of Charleston and South Carolina’s thriving business community.
