Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas announced that Angela Latino has assumed the role of President and CEO, based in Charlotte. Latino comes to the ABC Carolinas Chapter after leading ABC’s New Orleans/Bayou Chapter for the past 10 years. As CEO of the ABC New Orleans/Bayou Chapter, Latino oversaw the planning, development, and implementation of operations for a stand-alone construction training campus that is used to recruit, retain, and educate the skilled workforce in the area.

Generally, no one benefits from surprises on a construction project.  A particular problem that often catches general contractors by surprise occurs when a lower-tier subcontractor or materials supplier (i.e., one who does not contract with the general contractor but instead has a contract with a subcontractor) suddenly appears claiming that an unpaid contract balance is past due from the party with whom it contracted.

The U.S. office markets averaged just 4.4 million square feet of positive net absorption over the past two quarters; specifically, 7.4 million square feet were absorbed in the fourth quarter of 2017 and just 1.3 million square feet were leased on a net basis in the first quarter of 2018, according to CBRE. These figures came in significantly below the 10.8 million square-foot quarter average forecast six months ago.
 
 
The Carolinas AGC Foundation Scholarship Program was established to assist those choosing to enter the construction industry as well as those wishing to advance their skills and/or knowledge in an effort to further their construction careers. The scholarship committee is given $12,000 to distribute to those applicants deemed the most deserving.  Recently, the committee has selected five individuals whom they believe are going to be great assets to our industry.
