At only 31 years old, Aislinn Smith, Project Manager with Balfour Beatty in Charlotte, has nearly 3 million square feet credited to her name. She was recently named to Charlotte Agenda’s 30 under 30 Class of 2018. A relentlessly positive, calm under pressure, consummate team player, Smith’s glass is always half full.  Despite a demanding career that requires many early morning jobsite visits and late-night emails, Aislinn dedicates time to serving others through initiatives like the ACE Mentor Program. This past December, she led a project like no other — building a footbridge over a canyon in Bolivia’s Cochabamba River Valley.

GROUNDBREAKERS

People make the construction industry what it is today. GroundBreak Carolinas is excited to share the story of yet another member of the inaugural class of GroundBreakers – individuals who are shaping our industry in a variety of ways. The featured GroundBreaker this week is Keith Wayne.

Keith Wayne is President and CEO of Wayne Brother’s Inc., a specialty contacting firm which he co-founded more than 30 years ago.  In 1985, he was a laborer who had a vision of building a construction company rooted deep in values. Over the last three decades, Wayne has grown the company to over 500 employees and four offices across the Southeast. Wayne Brothers is based in Davidson, N.C., near Charlotte.

Clemson University’s College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities inducted 11 new members into its Hall of Fame on Friday, March 8, 2019. Six of this year’s 11 inductees come from the Carolinas’ world of design and construction.

Dean Richard E. Goodstein created the CAAH Hall of Fame in 2017 to honor alumni, members of the faculty and staff, and friends of the College who are recognized as leaders in their professions or have made a significant impact on the educational, research and service goals of the College.

The partnership between the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and Carolinas AGC (CAGC) is helping address the workforce shortage at a time when there are thousands of well-paying careers available in construction, the NCCCS president says.
"There are great jobs and meaningful careers in the construction industry…," said NCCCS President Peter Hans. "The partnership with CAGC is another example of how we work with business and industry to address their needs. By aligning with our partners, we are meeting challenges, providing opportunities for North Carolinians, and making a difference for our state."

In a perfect world, all of your projects would get completed on time, under budget and without any hiccups along the way. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Well, it will come as no surprise, that we, in fact, don’t always live in a perfect world and as construction managers, we need to constantly be on the hunt for new ways to help us successfully improve project delivery. When projects get completed on time and with greater efficiency, it can reap a multitude of benefits.
