The South Carolina Skilled Trade Alliance (SCSTA) rolled out its plans for creating a workforce pipeline for the Building Construction Trades in the state through a series of informational events last week in the Upstate region. Held at Greenville Technical College’s Center for Manufacturing Innovation, both the morning and evening sessions were well attended – validating the critical nature of the construction workforce shortage in the Carolinas and beyond.

On a Saturday morning in mid-January a group of women from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in Columbia, S.C. were thrilled to host students from kindergarten through sixth grade for the local 2020 Block Kids competition. The construction industry added 44,000 net new jobs in January, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has expanded by 142,000 jobs, an increase of 1.9%.
