Beth Davis: Born to Build

Balfour Beatty's Beth Davis was visiting construction sites before she could walk. Perhaps that’s why these days, she’s pretty comfortable running some of the largest and most complex jobsites in the Southeast. A second-generation builder who learned the ropes of large commercial projects from her father, the Ohio native has spent her entire 20-year career with Balfour Beatty, building a resume that would spark envy even amongst the most seasoned industry veterans. And she’s done it with a combination of sweat equity and earned swagger.

 
Will McCauley and the team at Creative Builders have gone back and forth with Greenville, S.C.'s Saskatoon Lodge Restaurant and Event Center team, trading places as vendors, customers, and coworkers. Creative Builders played a large role in constructing the restaurant's new venue on Halton Road — and they also did the upfit renovation that turned the restaurant's former location on Haywood Road from an old piano bar into a restaurant 21 years ago.

 
Carolinas AGC (CAGC) announced the CAGC 2019 Hall of Fame and Hall of Fame Legacy winners. These winners—one who has left an incredible legacy on our industry, and four who are still paving the road for future leaders to follow—embody the skill, integrity and responsibility that Carolinas AGC and the Associated General Contractors stand for. These prestigious awards honor individuals, including those who have passed, who are making or made extraordinary contributions over their careers to Carolinas AGC, the construction industry and the community they serve.

The law firm of Elmore Goldsmith announced that five of the firm’s attorneys have been selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for 2020. The Best Lawyers® is one of the oldest peer-review publications in the legal profession and is regarded by many as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Rankings are based on an exhaustive peer-review process in which attorneys from across the country provide feedback on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their respective practice areas.
 
The 24 Foundation’s 18th Annual 24 Hours of Booty (24 HOB) charity cycling event benefiting cancer survivorship programs brought heart, sweat and soul to the Myers Park neighborhood in Charlotte, N.C. On July 26 and 27, neighbors camped out in their front yards to watch 1,130 members of 127 teams get set for the three-mile Booty Loop. At the starting line there were people from all walks of life joined for a single reason, to fight cancer.

NAWIC Charlotte Director Sherre’ DeMao organized a Make-A-Wish opportunity for members to assist with the construction of a Ninja Warrior Course for an 11-year old boy with Cystic Fibrosis. Sherre’ was joined by members Karla Chavez and Tiffany McRae who assisted with painting and building the obstacle course for the young man who lives in Statesville, N.C.

Demand for design services in July remained essentially flat in comparison to the previous month, according to a new report released today from The American Institute of Architects (AIA). AIA’s Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score of 50.1 in July showed a small increase in design services since June, which was a score of 49.1.

No need to have a boat or team! We'll have an optional lottery drawing to assign anglers with captains. Individual registrations are encouraged! We'll kick things off right at Daylight on September 20th at the Dockside Marina in Wilmington, NC for a full day of fishing, with weigh-ins at Dockside from 4:00 to 5:30PM, followed by a dinner reception and awards at 6:00PM. Tickets are $100 per Captain, $75 per Angler or attend Friday's Reception for just $30.
